Grow with the Flow: Plant Giveaway Program

Rainbow Water District has partnered with Fallbrook Public Utility District for a new plant program, Grow with the Flow. The program is designed to help customers save water while beautifying their landscape with succulents that thrive in low water-flow environments.

Transform your yard into a water-wise garden with a variety of drought-tolerant and California Friendly ® plants in a range of colors and sizes. Through partnerships with Fallbrook nurseries, this program distributes drought-tolerant plants that reduce outdoor water use by as much as 85%. The succulent plants attract pollinators like butterflies and hummingbirds, add color, and visual appeal to your garden.

Online Applications - Closed: Program at Capacity

  • All program applications will be processed online on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Applicants must be a current Rainbow Water customer and live in the service area.
  • Non-metered residents are welcome to apply to the program.
  • The application will include name, address, email address, and account number to assist with verification of program requirements.
  • One application per account will be accepted to the program.
  • Space is limited. The program will close after applications reach capacity.
  • After applications have been reviewed, customers on the waitlist will be contacted when program space becomes available.

  • Upon program confirmation, a selection of plants will be set aside for customers, with individual pickup appointments scheduled for the end of April.
  • Customers will receive a diverse mix of drought-tolerant succulents, featuring small and medium potted plants.
  • At the scheduled pickup appointment, plants will be loaded into the customer's vehicle along with a complimentary succulent guide

About the Plants

The program will distribute a diverse mix of drought-tolerant plants. Customers accepted to the program will receive:

  • A large flat of approximately 100 four-inch succulents
  • Seven five-gallon established premium sized plants
  • A gardening guide booklet

Plants are reserved ahead of time for each customer. Due to the large quantity of plants, customers will not be able to hand-pick plants.

Funding

The Grow with the Flow program is funded through a grant from the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California and is a collaborative effort with Rainbow Water and Fallbrook Public Utility District (FPUD). Rainbow Water and FPUD plant giveaway programs will run concurrently, and customers can apply online through their water provider.

  • As part of the grant program, participants must plant the succulents in their yard and provide a follow up photo after plant installation.
  • All plants provided to customers are free.
  • Landscape workshops are available to assist customers with planning and design (see below for more info). Assistance with planting or pick up of plants is not available.
